I can't believe any of the houses in the OP were over $500K. I would never pay that much for those. . .

Oh, FFS. Melodramatic much? Unless you had a personal hand in designing the house, why would you possibly be offended? Most people fully admit that the housing stock in this area leaves something to be desired. Those of us who want to live closer-in often have to sacrifice on looks for affordability. We certainly did, and I joke all the time about how much we had to pay for the privilege of living in our ugly house with a fantastic neighborhood. I love the character of older houses but let's be honest, would anyone really choose a 1971 split foyer with speckled brick if they had their pick of any housing style? These houses may be well-kept and they may be acceptable given the alternatives but come on, they're not attractive!

Actually the balcony thing is the nice part. This house has a bit of an identity crisis...but I think it can totally be transformed into a plantation style mansion with balconies and verandahs and ceiling fans...

The house in NJ? I do not mind that because I have seen such houses in other countries. It is just not the norm here!

Yes. The top heaviness makes the balconies a bit precarious. I'm not sure what the solution would be. Maybe a large covered porch across the front of the house along with some landscaping?

Welcome to this board. The bolded is precisely the "ugly" they are referring to, unfortunately. I think this thread is ugly. Lets all get together and make fun of normal homes for average people (aside from a couple obvious monstrosities posted).
