Some examples of colored trim.

Pictures like this are the perfect example of why normal people (i.e. non-designers) probably shouldn't be experimenting with colored trim.

If my house had all those fabulous architectural details, I'd probably do something to make them pop too. None of those examples would work in my colonial, with pretty plain crown molding and regular height ceilings.

Dust. Black trim shows dirt and dust. I like to think my cleaning ladies dust the baseboards every week but I'm a realist.

Ugh. 99.9% of the time, coloured trim looks tacky and dated. Trim should not be a vehicle for colour in a room - is should just be the finishing touch to give crisp edges.

Obviously there are exceptions, but I think only in an exceptional, unusual home could the look be pulled off.

Good, thick, tall moldings/trim in semi or high gloss + tasteful wall paper = timeless.

What happened to her feet? I know I'm supposed to be looking at the trim (which I like, btw) but all I can see are the two casts on her feet.

I'm okay with black doors, but always prefer white trim. It's just crisp.
