Dealbreaker regardless of location or price. I must have a 2-car garage or room to put one in.

I couldn't afford a house where I want to live that has a garage. Original homes largely don't, or they are too tiny for anything other than storage, and the new homes are out of my price range, so there is no "everything else being equal". It isn't equal. If everyone in my close-in neighborhood could have big lots and big houses like far out suburbs, then sure, I'd expect to have a garage. But that's not the case, and so we do fine with a driveway that can fit three cars (we only have two, and usually park one on the street, but we CAN fit three cars) and a shed that holds all the bikes and lawn/garden tools. Of course I'd rather not have to scrape the windows or get wet carrying in groceries, but I'd rather deal with those things than buy a farther out house, with a garage, for the same price.

total, 100% deal breaker. DC weather is too harsh on cars. Not to mention lugging in groceries and babies in the pouring rain...no thanks.

Same here. One of my favorite parts of moving to our current home was not having to deal with the elements when coming and going from our house, especially since I had small children in tow. It's so nice to go out to a cool car in the summer and a clear, warmer car in the winter. I'd never want to give up a garage.

Not having a garage is a deal breaker for me. I lived in homes both with and without garages. I will never buy a house that doesn't have a garage. I drive a Honda Civic and a Honda Odyssey minivan. They both fit in my garage. I also like the extra storage for my outdoor equipment that my garage provides like a lawn mower, a snow blower, bikes, garden tools, sporting gear, etc.

No garage is an absolute deal breaker for us. We won't even consider a carport and will not look at houses without a garage. Right now we have a one car garage and are looking to move to a house with a 2 car garage. One car garage is great, but we would like to be able to have more storage and/or to be able to put DH's car in the garage as well.

My H did. It was a dealbreaker according to him and a 2 car garage was extremely difficult to find in our price range at the time. Now I want to move, get rid of one of the cars and not have a yard, so I'm hoping he's more willing to go without one now since all it became was a repository for junk that I have to clean out frequently.

Older neighborhood outside the beltway. No one has a garage. Love the neighborhood so we are not moving..but if we could have one it would be great.

Grew up with a garage, but also with massive quantities of snow.

We have a 1920s house inside the beltway. It has a detached garage that we use as a shed. One car parks in the driveway, the other in the street. It works fine for us, but we aren't really car people. If one of us had a gorgeous antique, I'd want to be able to park it inside.

I grew up with a driveway, no garage, and so didn't think a garage was necessary. My husband grew up with a garage and it was a 100% requirement for him. Now that I've lived with a garage, I love them.

I don't care about having a garage, but I do need offstreet parking.

We lived perfectly happily in our first home in Bethesda with no garage or driveway for 7 years. Never really thought about it. After 10 years in our current house with its 2 car garage, I would have a tough time going back. It's such a luxury not to have to deal with icy windshields in the winter.

Would consider it but would have to have a lot of other amenities we are looking for, to settle for no garage. I.E. it would have to be much closer in, etc etc. We used to live in DC (DH) and Arlington (me) so we have done the car-less lifestyle so that's why maybe I don't consider it an absolute non-starter. We were not married then and did not have kids then, though. So I'd consider it, but, like I said, it would have to have more "goodies" thrown in there to whet our interest.

We currently have a one-car garage, which is funny, b/c I know a lot of people would not consider less than a two-car! On another thread here some time ago, I posted about how we make it work, and lots of people were posting, "That is so inconvenient! I could never do it!" so I realize you get used to what you get used to.
