OP here. Okay, ladies, thanks for all the input. As I specified, I am a teacher. A Kindergarten teacher. I will be moving in whatever sandals I buy ALL day... and I usually have 12 hour days, all told. I will NOT be sitting at a desk. I will not be glancing down at my feet, admiring my chic heels, and patting myself on the back at my impeccable "young" fashion sense. I will NOT be tolerating pain during my day. I think you'd rather have my mind be on your children than on my barking dogs, right? So any more suggestions for something actually wearable for my life before I go ahead and bite the bullet? PP, I like the Kork Ease sandals (the gold ones), but generally don't (and can't) pay over $100 for a pair of shoes.

She's 65.
Sometimes I pick up a shoe and for a split second think "comfy!" And then stop myself...

It was a bit square toed in front...minimal strapping---not super-high Japanese servant style. I wore the shit out of those things. I had them repaired 4 times before they finally were cashed.
I so many times think I need to go into shoe design because I will have the perfect shoe in my head and can't find it anywhere. Or there will be something sort of close but then it will have an ugly detail or buckle, etc.
It is frustrating. Bring back the non-cork, non espadrille wedges!!
Are you talking about these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steve-Madden-black-leather-slides-sandals-size-7-/331182188585?pt=US_Women_s_Shoes&hash=item4d1bff2829

If you're open to a wedge with a bit of a heel, the Ralph Lauren Cecilia style are very comfortable and come in multiple colors. I have 3 pairs of them.
