I once read an article titled something like "Ugly is In " and it was about how wearing for the shock factor is trendy. I don't get it but I was born in the wrong era. It's not just Zara, It's everything, everywhere, because A it's cheap and B it's "less restrictive" People often assume that pretty means uncomfortable but if they look back at vintage clothing it fits the women's body, it is comfy as hell and stylish too.

They were always in style in Germany . Lived in Berlin in the early 2000s. Not attractive. I stood out for dressing more Parisian and less utilitarian .

It’s a Spanish brand. I shopped there and Mango 20 years ago living in Barcelona before either had come to the US.

It’s fashion forward. Some I’d never wear. Some is made for the US clientele- and never shown in Spain.

Zara used to put out some beautiful clothes for men. I have only shopped at Zara since my 20’s when i traveled to Europe. They started to get ugly and i was hoping it was a particular season from the runways they were knocking off which they have done their entire existence but it hasn’t recovered from the ugly phase in the last 5 years and im just not going to waste my money on anything they put out. Once in a while a nice bag or sweater but 98% of their men’s line is grossly ugly and has los quality as well. Tragic, because i loved Zara.

But to OP's original question, yes, zara and pretty much every "fashion forward" store right now is pumping out seriously ugly clothes. Boxy, drab colors, asexual, untailored and generally wholly unflattering. This has been going on for about 5 years. I will sometimes go into a store like that with the intention to "submit" to the trend and insistent that I'm going to buy something. And then I try stuff on and I looks so hideous that I can't bring myself to do it. Unfortunately, the alternative is to shop at stores that are decidedly unfashion forward because they are specifically trying to cater towards women who are stuck in a timeloop and refusing to move forward with fashion. Stores like, say, the limited, are essentially churning out only slightly updated clothes from 2004.


Agreed. The clothes EVERYWHERE are terrible. I don't think that fashion history will look too kindly on this decade.

Their clothing kind of always was. Zara was a pioneer in fast food fashion

I don't believe you have a fashion sense. Anyone with one would know how great Zara is. Not all the time. Sometime they miss, but sometimes they are spot on. You have to go online. I can mix Zara with Max Mara and will make it look like the entire outfit was $10k.


I'm the pp that commented on how God awful the quality is. I never said I didn't like the styles - in fact I love the style! But I can't get over the prices they ask for given what they're delivering. It all pills or shrinks or just literally falls apart at the seams. I'm not interested in disposable clothing. I'm 30 btw.
