. Lived in Berlin in the early 2000s. Not attractive. I stood out for dressing more Parisian and less utilitarian

This. I wouldn't shop there for anything. If youre shopping there you have like 0 sense. I'm nowhere close to my 40's and I know better.
Where do you shop, oh Wise One?
Not the PP but she's right. I popped in today for the first time and tried on a few items. Horrendous quality!
Lord, which one did you go to? I find super cute things. Some quality is good, some bad. Damn, you aren't supposed to buy your entire wardrobe there!

Anonymous wrote:Yes, birks and other trends in this earthy hippy style are currently in. It doesn't mean, however, that people should be wearing them - -- especially when in 90% of cases they are objectively unattractive.
(and the previous sentence should not be read to give some of the drab moms on this site carte blanche to wear birks with their 15 year old jeans and an old navy sweatshirt and deem themselves "trendy". Birks are only meant to be worn in a Coachella breezy kind of way).
But to OP's original question, yes, zara and pretty much every "fashion forward" store right now is pumping out seriously ugly clothes. Boxy, drab colors, asexual, untailored and generally wholly unflattering. This has been going on for about 5 years. I will sometimes go into a store like that with the intention to "submit" to the trend and insistent that I'm going to buy something. And then I try stuff on and I looks so hideous that I can't bring myself to do it. Unfortunately, the alternative is to shop at stores that are decidedly unfashion forward because they are specifically trying to cater towards women who are stuck in a timeloop and refusing to move forward with fashion. Stores like, say, the limited, are essentially churning out only slightly updated clothes from 2004.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I imagine it is just too fashion forward for you. Truthfully, I don't love that style of dress on me, think you need to be model thin for it, but Birkenstocks are actually really in right now.
no
Birks are not in.

I don't believe you have a fashion sense. Anyone with one would know how great Zara is. Not all the time. Sometime they miss, but sometimes they are spot on. You have to go online. I can mix Zara with Max Mara and will make it look like the entire outfit was $10k.
