There were two identical initials in a row in the PK4 when I was noting them, and I thought, oif this is going to make some parents excited/worried! I'm glad I went tonight. I wanted to see what the "lottery" side of things was all about.

Well, hoping my neighborhood school actually gets better. I really want to stay in my neighborhood. Hoping all my neighbors ( with kids going to inbound school) do too!

Shining Stars sounds like a nightmare administratively. Fired ED and Principal all at once. No way would I send my kid there.

Lee had a 10% acceptance rate, easily the best odds of the most talked about charters so agree it sounds harder than the old days. Sela and Shining stars seem like the only good bets (though I know you don't want Montessori), and my money is on them being pretty competitive next go round.

But this year the only promising charter was Lee Montessori and Montessori did not seem like a good fit for my kids plus our common lottery number was so bad we wouldn't have gotten in anyway.

I do think it has gotten harder to get in in recent years with fewer promising new charters and more kids applying.

It's been said before....you enroll when it's unproven. Your first kid is a guinea pig. Your second or third kid benefits from the early years. NONE of you would have looked at Stokes 10 years ago when it was over in Mt Pleasant. Once it moved to Brookland in the renovated space that all changed. By then it's too late, you can't get in.


I would Take Stokes in the worst building in Mt P over the current location. It would be the difference in walking vs driving for me.


No, because the entire school population was working class AA and Latino, high % FARMS. You would not have looked at it.


Doesn't sound too much different from now.
