Technology, outsourcing, a growing temp staffing industry, productivity efficiencies, have all replaced the middle class. Everyone is getting fired. Everyone is toilet paper now. All 3 houses directly by us in our quiet suburban neighborhood have people, in 50's and up, that have been fired in last 2 years. PM, Architect, Tech Writer, it doesn't matter. There is no security in IT.
lol....I could of written this myself, still hanging in there, but salary is regressing from just over 210 to 160 and downwards... I love my job, but I'm definitely out of my comfort zone, miss the good old 80/90's...would love another y2k...

PhD here that quit that rat race out of grad school. Two years out and I'm making 130K this year.
What's your PhD in, and what do you do?
My PhD is in clinical psych, and I'm about to start a position paying $90K, just shy of six years out. It's a Fed position, with telework and great benefits, so the trade-off in not making six figures for a few years is very worth it.
PhD in Biology, but I don't use it anymore. I work in sales so I also have incredible flexibility. Not going back to research!

Cannot disclose which agency for obvious reasons.
I'm an Economist. My colleagues are either from financial industry or academia. Some are fresh graduates. They all have Ph.D. degrees in Finance/Economics.
Federal Reserve, I bet.
Or the OCC. Many people do nothing there and earn $175,000 and more.

Yes, that's a wage that is only deserved for lawyers, bankers or physicians. A lowly nurse should never have the opportunity to make a good salary. Now big law OTOH...

A branch of computational physics. There are about 10 other people that can do my job -- only 3 others have the proper clearances. We are all friends, but work for different companies. I think the difference is the computational physics vs. social science. FWIW, at 10 years work experience, I was making in the 90's.
