N arl resident and my neighbor did the same thing. I had to park further from the house and bringing it the kids was a bit more challenging. I simply asked and was well aware she could have said 'f u' but she didn't. She didn't even realize what impact it had on me. She was kind. I was extremely appreciative. We are lucky to have neighbors who care. Give it a chance OP. People may surprise you. Dcum is full if hyper critical and overly sensitive ppl. Dcum is not real life.

That would really piss me off too. I don't care of it's petty. Rent a POD and leave it there for a few weeks!

Be even more passive aggressive by putting out your trash cans early in front of your house. Place them in the street, right where they park.

Even if a car is there it's not a problem. Ours are next to driveway so they are just rolled out.

Our neighbors never park in front of our house and vice versa. The rare times are if somebody has visitors or somebody outside the neighborhood is parked there--but that's like 4 times a year tops.

I wonder why their habits suddenly changed are the coming up street a new way and don't want to turn around? I'd let it go personally.

if it's really just a trash issue and not a bigger "space" issue, then put your trash/recycling cans right next to their car so it's tough for them to get in & out - right in front of their car inches from the bumper (I do this with my own car because we don't have a driveway). put the cans out a little early and then leave the cans out a little longer than you should. maybe they won't want to park so close to your trash cans.

Definitely agree with this. It's an "unwritten rule" IMO in my neighborhood where most of us do not have driveways.

It would annoy me too, OP. Either park your car in front of your house for a time or park it in front of their house.

Haven't read the whole thread but here are my thoughts. We also live in N Arlington in a neighborhood where people have driveways but usually not garages and many cars park on the street.

Most people in my neighborhood park one car on the street and one in their driveway. The houses are close enough together that usually only one or two cars fit in front of each house between the driveways.

We usually park in front of our house unless the spot is taken, then we park in front of next door neighbor or directly across the street. Sometimes when my husband is mowing the lawn I don't park in front of my house. Sometimes if it is sunny (summer) I will park in the shade across the street.

My next door neighbor is on the corner and can't park in front of their house because of a fire hydrant. Sometimes they park in front of my house or around the corner.

Many houses have steep driveways that make you scrape the bottom of the car when you pull in if you are not careful. My husband's car has higher clearance so I usually park on the street.

Everyone on our street puts the cans in the street, not on the curb. We put ours at the edge of our driveway so it is always open and visible.

It would annoy me too but I don't think you can do anything about it. As others suggested you could park there yourself...maybe they would get the message.

On my block, there are six houses. Ours is the only one with a driveway. Everyone parks directly in front of their house. 4 of the 6 houses have 1 car. We are one of the 2 car families.

My across the street neighbor parks her car directly opposite my driveway. The space she parks in is not directly in front of her house. She actually has to walk farther by parking in this way. My driveway is steeply sloped, as is our street. Every time it ices or snows, I fear that my car will slide down the driveway and crash into her car. On icy days, I've had to ask her to move her car because I don't want to hit her and she gets pissed.

EEgads! Someone is supposed to accommodate ur steep ass driveway and ur inability to navigate it ?
I get it when it is icy and snowy, but otherwise u need to gett a life

It drives me CRAZY when there is a random car parked directly in front of my house. CRAZY.

I don't have a driveway, though.

Arlington has been adding sidewalks for 20 years, it is a major part of their transportation master plan.

It is a slow process though.

If someone is a bad driver or just a lazy driver, it is harder to back out of their driveway with your car parked on your curb opposite. So they park in that spot, so they can just pull out--and also to prevent you from parking there, to make life easier for themselves.

Put something in the way. Park your own car there instead of your driveway ~ something to make your point. I would not discuss, just do.
