Yes, perhaps you should be. Montgomery County treats teachers comparatively well, as I understand, and I'm happy about that. Other school districts -- yours, for example? -- do not treat teachers so well. I wish they did.

Not quite accurate as two of the three teach in model systems in CT and MA. CT was putting practices in place 20+ years ago to support teachers and improve teaching, including pay levels that were unheard of before this. States like MD followed their example and you have seen the benefits here. But sadly those states do have higher standards for their teachers and in turn the teachers view themselves as professionals. I know many professional in various fields who take their work home with them on nights and weekends when necessary. You do too. Teaching should not be viewed any differently but unfortunately the union mentality pervades and undermines professionalism.

When should teachers find time to grade end of marking period tests, enter final grades, and complete quarterly updates for students with IEPs and 504 plans?
Maybe we should return to the school marm days? My great-grandmother taught back when teachers were not allowed to be married. Only single women, although the superintendent was always a married man. If you got married you had to resign. I always thought that this was because parents were afraid that kids might see a pregnant teacher and realize babies weren't brought by storks. However, DCUM comments make me realize its because teachers shouldn't have personal lives and should just spend all evening at the end of each marking period grading.

Good point.

Did anyone notice that the state sent the letter on Wednesday. Why did they wait to release it?

Did anyone notice that the letter is dated March 26 -- which is different from the state sending the letter on March 26?

Did anyone notice that the state faxed it to MCPS today?
