The only legit Ivy state school joke is Cornell, but actually it is does have a few land-grant colleges so maybe it's not a joke after all.

Our kids are at a public in Arlington and there are a lot of parents who are Ivy/top college grads.

Our background: public through HS, Ivy undergrad & grad, $500k HHI

We looked into privates a little, but none in this area really seemed worth it to us.

Another Penn grad here, and I can't believe that tongue in cheek reference to state schools is being taking as serious and offensive. Com'on, where's the UPenn sense of humor?

Well just so the Columbia poster knows, at least one person got it and thought it was hilarious.

Btw, I'm ivy undergrad and Stanford grad school w/ HHI>$300k and can't decide on public vs private. Have to decide soon as DS is turning 3 in a few months....decisions, decisions...

Columbia needs to be kicked out of the Ivy League if they are producing grade too clueless to know the difference between Penn and Penn State.

+1 Could not care less about sports. When I was an undergrad, Columbus's football team was known for not winning a single game in four yrs. They had graduating seniors who had not won one game. This is the extent of my knowledge about Ivy sports. I have never attended a baseball, football, basketball game at any level in my entire life

My DH rowed crew at his Ivy. Most of my friends and I played squash and tennis.

Harvard grad, PhD from a different school. I am a fed, so my HHI is definitely not high, although I consider it adequate. My kid will probably attend an EOTP DCPS school next year. I also went public K-12, and prefer to spend money on travel and enrichment.

And you can't be an Ivy grad without knowing that Penn is Columbia's biggest rival...

GDS grad, double ivy (BA and grad). Would love to send DS & DD to GDS or comparable, but could never afford it with 2 kids and HHI < $150k. So, FCPS it shall be, coming Sept.

I think the proportion of study subjects who also live in DC proper and send their kids to private will be materially greater than those who aremin the strong suburban districts cited in all the prior posts. People with education know to value it highly. You can pay to be in a strong school district or you can pay for a strong school.
