I think pineapple might be a pretty good deal, especially if you buy the fresh precut stuff from Costco or WholeFoods when it's on sale, which is all the time.
I have a pineapple corer and cutter. Literally takes me 30 seconds to prepare pineapple.
I'm the PP. Yes, I have one of those too, but to me it's not just about time...using those corers wastes so much of the fruit. IMO. Anyway, to each his own...I'll continue to buy pineapple precut except when whole pineapples are on supersale.
They waste even more because there is NO skin left on the pre-sliced stuff, where as the corer often shaves off so little that some skin is still left. My complaint is that is cuts it too close. Maybe we have different corer products.
I'm not sure a full priced pineapple would be any more expensive than something pre-cut. I'm a very budget conscious shopper and just purchased a pineapple for $3. I don't think $3 would pick me up ANY pre-cut pineapple, at least not the fruit I've seen.
To each his own! I'm glad people like you keep the cost of produce down for the rest of us. Without your purchases, there is no way I could get my pineapple for $3, as most grocers lose money on the fresh produce and make the losses up on the profit margins of the pre-prepared stuff.
