+1 to this. Plus Hazel is also trendy now. Gertrude, no. I would say Margaret is in the same class as Grace, Georgia, Helen, Virginia, Mary, etc. Definitely NOT like Norma, Gertrude, Ethel, Ursula. Although I do know a baby Ursula

Margaret is like Elizabeth or Katherine. You can’t go wrong and there can’t be too many.

Margaret was our second girl's name that we never got to use. Classic name with Maggie being the default nickname for this generation (a la Katie versus Kathy for Katherine). I also know two preschoolers with the given name Maisie. I personally like Mae or Greta for nicknames.

According to the Social Security website, up until 10 years ago, Margaret is a top 100 name. The last 10 years, it's been in the top 150-200. So I don't think it's dated, and many people, young and old, still have that name.

Personally, I don't like the formal name Margaret, but like the nn Maggie.

My mom renamed herself in her 40s - started going by both first and middle instead of just first.

PP who is a Margaret: My mom went from Meg to Margaret when she divorced my father ...she was 30. So you can rename yourself. I would have named my daughter after her but she's crazy, like crazy batshit crazy. So maybe only crazy people can rename themselves...IDK

+1 It seems that many DCUM posters like "creative" names. Personally, I prefer traditional ones, so yes--I love Margaret, just as I also love Katharine and Elizabeth! If you prefer to call her Maggie, I think it's a very cute nickname but think calling her Margaret is great, too!

You've got to be kidding, right? DCUM is about as conservative as it gets when it comes to naming tastes. Most posters think "creative" names are tantamount to child abuse.

No, I really wasn't kidding! When I read the name threads, I think a lot of the suggestions are over the top creative. But then, I guess I'm pretty conservative about names.
