Ps - I'm not the only person who moved from SS to Olney...half my neighborhood did. Many folks who go to my kids school also owned starter homes in SS. I only mention this so you don't believe that there's one poster on DCUM saying the same thing.

Anonymous wrote:Like the Rockville poster and others posting about the superiority of Bethesda and Potomac, I was merely pointing out another community that offers good benefits. That's all. And having been raised in SS and owned a home there at one point, I was highlighting the fact that SS is soooo super huge and the neighborhoods are soooooo different that its odd to make any sort of statement about "Silver Spring" --- good, bad or otherwise. Because what might be an accurate statement about Woodmoor likely wouldn't apply to Bel Pre. Understand? That's all.

Anonymous wrote:How about this: stop saying, "Silver Spring is great!" Instead, note what part of SS you are talking about. Some parts aren't great. Some are quite awful. Most parts aren't walkable to anything. Many parts aren't an easy commute to DC. That's my point, PP.
Anonymous wrote:I'm the Woodmoor PP who talked a little about walkability. I agree that when discussing Silver Spring one should be specific about area. Four Corners and to the DC line is certainly one section, there are others. I like my part of Silver Spring - I think it has a lot to offer, the schools are pretty good, I think there is good value in the housing.
I also love Olney. It's too far out for me to live, but I like the town center, the soccer complex is great, the homes out there are beautiful and larger than what you get for your money where I live.
I also think there are other good suburbs of DC. I am a little surprised that SS was at the top of this list (however random the list may be) but in thinking about it further, it makes some sense. I don't for a second think my block, neighborhood, suburb, whatever has a monopoly on being a good place to live.
