And yes, I expect that the school system (that we do pay for in taxes), to cater to the needs of the students. But it has been made abundantly clear that families and students are not the customers, and that very little policies and procedures are put in place to benefit the children. And really, what else should their mandate be if not to properly educate our children. All of our children, not just the wealthy kids, or the kids whose parents can make the time to schlep in to school for feedback and meetings. All of the children.
Figure it out MoCo. Because the shine has long since worn off the old reputation of being one of the finest school systems in the country.

We have a super bright kid who's in a shitty school (in a magnet program which I am now convinced is solely designed to get motivated bright students into shitty schools). He is in 6th grade but is in all advanced (7th - 8th grade courses) but gets NO comments on his report cards, NO music, NO sports, NO arts, NO field trips, NO opportunity to explore how exciting and inspiring education can be. His school is 75% farms, and while socially he is happy, he is not receiving an adequate education. I don't care how "advanced" he is, or that he gets straight A's. No kid should should be doing merely drill and kill.
He attends Col. E. Brook Lee MS. It is a hot mess.
We are going private next year before he is totally turned off of school.
Nice work MoCo.
I'm sorry you are disappointed with the school, but I'm not getting the bolded part of this rant. Your kid is in middle school, he won't be getting comments on his report cards from here on out. I presume he takes Phys. Ed, and that music and art are available electives as they are at every other middle school. I'm not defending Lee, but the school system does provide the things you say your son isn't getting.
