Stupid. I agree with those who have said if you want to have a party just have a party. Go ahead and announce the gender at the party if you want, but don't make that the "subject" of the party. If I were invited to a "gender reveal party" I'd be annoyed b/c I'd wonder if I was supposed to bring a gift.

We didn't have a party, but just my husband and I had gender reveal cupcakes made (our physician very kindly sealed the gender in an envelope and we gave it to our local pastry chef) and just he and I had our own little party after going put to a nice dinner. We really enjoyed it. I personally wouldn't have a party, but to each their own. We're not really party or shower people, but lots of people are!

Just have a regular party and reveal it at the end. No need to announce that you are going to reveal it. That way you don't make anyone uncomfortable and avoid that awkward "no gifts" line in your invitation , which sounds presumptuous in itself.
