My sneaky company does reviews in the middle of the year, and raises then - I think so that they don't need to give me a yearly adjustment nor bonus. They have a pool of money they dole out in small increments, and I will be bummed if they give me nothing.

I really think they time the whole thing:

Summer 2011 - hire
December 2011/January 2012 - no raise or bonus since I "just started"
Summer 2012 - positive review. No adjustments
December 2012/January 2013 - no adjustment, $2K bonus
Summer 2013 - positive review, $4K raise.
December 2013/January 2014 - I think I'm screwed

Pleasantly surprised with a 2.5% raise and $700 bonus. I would have liked a bigger bonus, since it just feels like extra money, but the bump in base in better in the long run.

Does your spouse make more than $400,000 or something? Otherwise, it's not possible for your bonus to be cut "nearly" in half. You'd have 25% withholding plus FICA, so it would be reduced by a third.

our HHI is about 250k. I ran a calculator online, and I am told my 10k bonus will net me $5800. I hope that is wrong.

Me: $100,000. $1600 bonus

Husband: $110,000. Earlier this year he got a $15,000 bonus. His boss has said he'll likely get the same in 2014, but we'll have to wait until spring to know for certain.

Seriously, who are all you $60K+ PT workers? What do you guys do? And is PT 20 hours or 35? Curious, as my situation is much less lucrative and I'm in tech.

^^and I should add, I honestly feel lucky to have a job, and to make as much as I do for PT work that's much easier than jobs I've had in the past.
