duke would get invited (afterall NW is there).
It's NU, not NW, and frankly NW would never get invited if they hadn't been there from the beginning. They really don't belong, but the bar for kicking a school out is, as it should be, different from the bar for letting a school in in the first place.
The big ten just invited and accepted Johns Hopkins .
The big ten is as much about research funding as sports. Hopkins is the #1 research funded institution in the United States. UMD , when the law and medical schools are merged as they are at almost all schools is 8th in the nation with approx 1.2 billion per year.
They added Hopkins for just 1 sport.

Sad but true.
I also think of how is it possible that VT has zero national championships in any sport and zero Pulitzer or Nobel alumni.
Instead... Vt has had a student massacre , ugly architecture , dingy locale, a beheading in the dining hall, a cop shot in the face , and a alumnus who massacred and wounded at fort hood.
The worst
The fact that some idiot from Maryland would post this on Thanksgiving underscores why your school commands so little respect. No class whatsoever. None. Your parents must be really proud.

Among public schools in Va/MD, I would think easily second to UVA though some might think Va Tech stronger -- GMU not close. The campus at UMD is really very nice, very large (as is true of all major public universities) but great. I am not sure why it receives less attention than the VA schools but no reason to ignore it, be a good or excellent place for most students in the area.
I don't find the architecture at Maryland interesting. All the main buildings look like bigger versions of the state rest stops along 95.
It's Georgian architecture .
Without the UVA plantation layout.

Duke has no sway over NC cable rights ,
