I put in 7 1/2%. I'm required to contribute 3 1/2% and company puts in 11 1/2%.

I'd love to contribute the max, but pretty stretched as it is.

2%. I'm maxed out as an HCE since our company has lots of minimum wage earners. Stinks.

12% (6% match), and 3% to a Roth IRA. $140K income.

10% with a 5%match. 2200/year in Roth IRA. To max would eat up too much of my base income now, but I will get there someday.

Well, I put in about 35% of my salary. But, my DH doesn't have any sort of retirement program, so I max out mine. It is only about 10% of our combined income.

My employer kicks in 3 percent whether I contribute or not, so I'm considering starting off with another 3 percent and seeing how things go. I do max out a Roth IRA, though.

Finally, someone who sounds like me!

Single mom. I have 7% withhold, company gives 3% for 10% total (of a salary under $100K). It's nowhere near enough, but neither is my college saving. Sigh.

13% with a 5% match. I will up to 14% if feds get a raise in January (and possibly before, if my step increase ever goes through). My aim is to get to the max contribution within the next couple of years. I also try to max out a Roth IRA, although I've only gotten to the max 1-2 times in the four years I've contributed...

Max out the $17,500 plus max out a Roth IRA (backdoor conversion). It makes a big dent in my take-home but we can live without it.

Wow... all these people maxing out. I couldn't come close. 17,500 is 22% of my salary and 36% of DH's. We can only do about 10%.

Yup, 17,500 again for 401K and 5,500 for IRA in 2014.

DW puts in 20% of her pay, which works out to a bit over $17,500. I max out. She gets a decent match, I get none (fuckin law firms).

Anonymous wrote:I just split the max contribution of $17,500 by 26 pay periods. For some plans you need to be contributing to get the match, so if you max out early you may have missed some match. The contribution maximum usually goes up by $500 each year. Once I hit 50, I'm going to add the $5,500 in "catch up" contributions.

This is how my plan is set up too. If you get a bonus or cash out PTO at the end of the year, make sure you calculate that in too. I had to change my withholding three times last year, because our plan requires us to state a percentage, not a number.
