If you expunge, child retakes the class. Period. We expunged DCs B earned in 7th in Algebra honors. Glad we did because DC earned an A in 8th grade in the same course.

In Arlington, this is simple.
Outside the guidance offices is the form. You fill it out. They do it.
You have to keep the grade for any course you are using to count toward Virginia's advanced diploma or any other VA requirement, but otherwise this is easy.
I don't think they use the word "expunge" in Arlington, but it is fairly common to do what you are saying. We did not count two seventh grade classes.

/thank you for asking this question, OP.
It might come in handy for my child next year when she takes Algebra (not sure if it will be honors or not). It is good to know what the options are and what the consequences are re: credits and adv. diploma.

Sort of off-topic, but I so wish students could choose one grade in high school to expunge. Just one. It would be huge for my DC, who is currently failing a class that he has spent an inordinate amount of time studying for.

It doesn't. It's not expunged until after you complete middle school (unless you're expunging after 7th grade?)

It is completely removed and doesn't factor into GPA at all.

My advice is that if the policy allows you to expunge the grade and move on to the next level course, I would do it. I wouldn't care if the counselor said it "wasn't fair" or some other nonsense. If they don't like their own rules, they should change them. It is not dishonorable to follow their own rules, no matter what they say.

For what it's worth, I also would keep the Bs in this circumstance.

I figured that the colleges will see that the courses were taken in middle school and that the fact that he took 6 years of high school (plus) level math would be a positive. They will also have slightly less weight than if they were taken in high school as there will be 2-3 extra courses on the transcript that wouldn't be there otherwise.
