I think your DH is right, but if I see you at my children's school I would mind my own business and if you are friendly talk to you, etc. Who cares about what you wear as long as you are a good person, good mother, etc.

I think your dh is unnecessarily worried. At my dd's school, some moms show up in hot pants (or showing a ton of cleavage), while some look like devour Mennonites. Some kids have two daddies, some have no daddy. Even if you wore a St. John's suit every day and looked perfect in every way it wouldn't matter. If some kid wanted to be a jerk, they'd find something to be a jerk about.

I do agree with PPs who said that you may want to consider some branching out and modernizing if you've had the same style for 25 years. One of my friends from high school has had the exact same haircut since we were 15, and we're damn close to 50 now. It's a little creepy, IMO.

That said, her hairstyle does work for her, and if I hadn't known her all these years I don't think I'd think twice about it.

Do what works for you, and fsck 'em if they don't like it. But some consideration as to whether or not you're in a rut might be worthwhile. A little red dress to surprise the hubby never hurt.

Op it may be more that your husband would like a change form your one dimensional look.

I know that if my husband dressed the same everyday and it was the same way he dressed every day for the last twenty five years - I would love for him to update his look and maybe try new clothes. Part of it is that to me with growth comes an interest in new things and groundhog day for 25 years sounds stagnant. It sounds like you are really afraid to go outside your comfort zone, almost like you outfit is your 'blanky' or your comfort item and you don't feel safe without this look.

I wouldn't care at all nor would my kids if you came to school that way but if I knew that you had the exact same look for 25 years it would make me wonder why change was so scary for you.

Op, I can understand where you are coming from I was heavily into the Rockabilly styles. I mostly would wear black, reds, whites. I still have carried over the style being an adult at 38 it's a more towned down version. It's better to stay true to who you are then to become someone you are not.

I wear mostly black or navy and in the summer mostly white and off white. I just think it looks clean and classic. I really dislike wearing colors.. I do have a few colored blouses but prefer muted neutral shades. I get a bit more adventurous in the warmer weather. I just feel it looks best on me.. Not really trying to make a statement or anything

OP, the best lesson you can give your kid is the gift of seeing his mom being true to herself. that said, people in this are (DC) may look at you strange, but this says more about them than you. another lesson for your child!

you mention that you have worn the same style for 25 years. maybe it is time for a change. not because of what society thinks, but because change is good for the soul sometimes! instead of long skirts/tunics, perhaps invest in more fitted blak clothing like straight leg skimmer pants, fitted v-neck sweaters, etc. if you are ready to branch out, maybe start with grey and navy.
