I am going to agree with this. Not sure where the middle ground is. I realize some people are anti gay marriage--although I think once you have a family member who is gay you might change your mind. I just don't like the pushing gay themes like half of the families out there are gay parents...they are not and acting like they are really doesn't help the cause.I really wish we could just treat people in a nice way and move on with life..who cares who you are sleeping with anyway??

PP, I have to be blunt: If this were the situation at our school, we'd be out of there. I don't care about the "many other good things;" a lot of schools offer that.

We left a private over this. The school was "celebrating" any kid who would come forward and say they were gay. IMHO, these kids are too young to even know what they are yet and this just confuses them when other kids - whom I also think are too young to know - get an "award" for coming out. And then these poor "outed" kids go through puberty and discover what this is all about but meantime have been teased by the other kids for being gay. I don't see how this is productive. We have swung too far left with this issue and need to resettle.

An agenda is when a school is looking to stock the school with more gay families including asking parents if they know any gay families and to please tell them about the school. That's an agenda. Being inclusive is interviewing candidates and who cares who their parents are. If candidate becomes a student and his or her parents are gay you treat them the same as everyone else and that means being equal part of your community. If a student is gay you also treat them as you would someone who is not gay. In a kind manner.

Why would there be an "agenda?" I'm not aware of ANY school in the DC area where the head of the school is openly gay. The administration may be progressive and doing the right thing, but no one is implementing some secret agenda.

I am very pro gay marriage and so are a lot of the parents who are not comfortable with this direction. It is like the school is attempting to artificially stock gay families and seems very much like an agenda. These are sensitive topics though and hopefully pp is supportive that a gay family who has a child that is great candidate for a school program should be welcomed open arms.

This sounds like a school I would like.

Like another poster, our IB doesn't do anything for anyone or anything based on what Congress has declared the month to be. That said, diversity is woven into the curriculum. Our lower school principal is gay, and it's accepted just as easily as the fact that the middle school principal is married with two kids. The only reason the middle school principal's wife shows up at things is because their children go to our school. I'm sure if our elementary school principle had a child in school his partner would be at school events. It really doesn't matter.

I use less of of any flaunting their sex life. That's not the issue really. The issue is pushing the gay agenda--mom/mom ..dad/mom all the same. No it isn't and we shouldn't pretend it is. That doesn't mean it's bad..it's different and when schools try to market that it's the same..it's a turn off. Even my gay family member is tired of the gay agenda..he just wants to live his life in piece without a focus on who he is sleeping with.
