This is the easiest way...its a grass.

There are products you can pick up from southern states, etc with a pesticide license that will kill it - but nothing else will grow in that area for 3 years or so...when done killing the bamboo you can write a note to your neighbor (in their lawn) to stop letting their dog poop in your yard too.

OP it is nearly impossible to tell what kind it is, even if you hire all the so called specialists in the world. If you have such an irrational fear of bamboo, just pass and keep looking. Our neighborhood has tons of bamboo. None of it spreads, we love it!
