Yes they would. 33 weeks isn't late enough to scare them sufficiently and they don't assume liability anyway.

Yes, because I would be fine giving birth in London and its unlikely that you will have the baby anyway. This is assuming you have not already had a complicated pregnancy.

Make this one of the first decisions you make that puts your child's well-being above all other things, including pressure from other people to do something you are not comfortable with.

I'm sorry about your nieces situation, but.....flying for 8 hours is less likely to leave you with problems than taking a car trip. In a plane you can get up and walk as often as you need to; every 30 minutes if you want.

Anyway, I'll be the outlier and say I don't think it's a big deal. If you by freak chance deliver that early, you will be in a country with much cheaper health care costs than here. And I would imagine that in London you could get the same level care as in the US. And by 33 weeks, you have a pretty robust preemie on your hands. Much worse would be delivering a 24-30 week preemie in a foreign country, as that's an area of care that the US tends to specialize in. But honestly the chances of delivering then are so, so low.

Glad you think the public NHS is as good as any US hospital. Remember that Europe doesn't consider babies born before (X weeks - 30?) to actually be a live birth. Preemie care in Europe...yeah I wouldn't count on it being the same.

Also remember customs could be an issue. They are always skeptical of very pregnant women asking for admission (for obvious reasons).

Especially on an international flight. They don't want that liability.

I'd do it but only if I were really close to the family and it was a big event. And only if I really WANTED to do it - which it sounds like you don't. Otherwise, just send DH.

Heck, my mom had to miss her sister's wedding when she was pregnant with me. And it was within driving distance (though an 8-hour drive). They all got over it. Bar mitzvahs just aren't that important in the scheme of things -- and I say this as a Jew. They are important, but not as important as your health and the baby's. If your husband is very close with his brother or sister and/or the bar mitzvah boy, or sees his family very rarely, he should perhaps consider it. Otherwise, don't bother.
