This month's Runner's World (which has lots of good info for beginners) has a bra guide towards the back. I think there were at least 4 recommendations for heavy-duty bras. I need lots of support whilst running, and those bras aren't cheap but are worth the cost!

I started wearing some knee length pants that are like a combination of yoga pants and bike shorts. They are Champion brand from Target and have compression to hold you in like Spanx and a very high waist.
I find them much more comfortable than shorts b/c they prevent both thigh chaffing and tummy jiggle.
