Or, you teach your child not to go to random people who call their name? We started teaching that to DD, that just because someone calls her name she doesn't go running unless she knows the person.

This is such stupid, overwrought Mommy fretting. The chances of this happening are so infinitely small, and whether you have a name on the backpack or not is even more ridiculous.

If I were a "stranger" looking to take one of your kids, all I would do is just find a group of a dozen or so kids and yell out "Henry!" Then just pick the cutest of the six that turn around.

I think we have become WAY TOO paranoid as a society. Yes, there may be a very remote chance that a pedophile would be looking for a child with a monogrammed backpack to pick out and call by name. But seriously to not monogram stuff because of this very highly unlikely possibility is completely paranoid and ridiculous IMO. Your child's friend could also yell out their name on the playground and a kidnapper could then walk up to your child and call them by name. Or the pedophile could just use the old lines "can you help me find my dog?" or "do you want some candy?" There are so many possibilities and you can't prevent every single thing that may happen. Instead just teach your child how to react if a stranger comes up to them, including if they call them by name!

Safety hazard because left alone for a few minutes and someone speaks to child by name that person registers to the child as someone they must know so not a stranger. It makes the person seem familiar. Not worth the small chance added risk.

i think for my little one we should like get thread and put there full name because if some one has the same bag as your child they would know its yours and not theres..
