I know. There’s no point in responding because parents never attend their kids’ sports games anymore!

From my immigrant perspective, it’s super weird how American parents feel that they have to watch all their children’s sports games. I don’t get it and I don’t understand how they think that somehow this makes them a better parent. I’m perfectly fine with watching some of my children’s games, but not all of them.

Maybe OP now has to attend their 20-something's softball or Ultimate Frisbee rec games at the Mall.

My dad worked long hours and traveled a lot for work so he came when he could but that was not too often. My mom came to pretty much everything. I have two kids and their stuff overlaps but I am never just sitting at home or doing something else entirely if one have them has a thing. I love to watch them do the things they love. So yes, I am at every game or concert or performance unless I am at the other kid's game or concert or performance and then DH is at the other kid's thing. My kids are old enough to be home alone so they don't have to come to each other's stuff but often they choose to do so.

My parents were terrible parents so I definitely don’t try to do what they did or don’t do.

I enjoy watching my kids. But you do you.

I also think it just depends on what you value. I spent my entire 20’s living abroad, going to events and parties… I prefer to sit on the sidelines with a coffee and watch first grade baseball now. I have my own career and plenty of friends it’s just my personal preference to see my kids since it’s just a limited window. I’ll miss a game for a girls trip or travel for work or with my husband but I typically plan my time around my kid’s weekend activities.

I enjoy watching my children do what they love. I'm not going to apologize for that, or feel the need to justify that.

If they ever asked me not to come, I would respect that.

But I also go out of my way to keep the post-game conversation to "I loved watching you play today. Did you have fun?"

My children like having me there. I like being there. Whats the problem?
