PP here. It may actually be that they're not incorrect. But, if they have that much anxiety with no signs of trouble, the doppler is a bandaid covering up a major issue they need to work on. And my guess is it isn't reducing the anxiety by that much to make a huge difference. Again, hate to keep picking on the one poster, but if you literally cannot sleep, suffer insomnia and high blood pressure because you're stressing over a symptomless possible miscarriage you need help putting things in perspective. Parenthood is much more frightening than this.
Also, I think some PP's are mistakenly thinking that a poster upthread is arguing in favor of doppler with the "what if you don't feel movement" question. I think that was a person concerned about the Doppler posing the question - along the lines of- if you think things are stressful now, there's more stress ahead, and you should NOT resolve that stress with the doppler. That was my take, anyway.

I use mine a couple of times a week and will until I can feel movement because it keeps me from going bat shit.
Any intelligent woman knows there are still risks that a Doppler can't identify, which is why there are doctor's visits. I think women who use it every day for an hour are not doing themselves any favors, for 3 minutes a couple times a week? The fumes from my metro commute are far worse.
What are you going to do when you finally start feeling movement and then one day the baby doesn't move as much? That will cause you stress too.....
Then you go into your OB immediately! You don't sit around at home messing with your home doppler when that happens!
Well but if she gets a heartbeat on Doppler, she might not. She is not feeling movement now and relying on it.
What are you talking about? I'm 13 weeks - this is OP. Of course I'm not feeling movement. You all have been pregnant, yes? You know all the doc does is listen to the heartbeat at visits, right? What else do you suggest they do?
Please stop.

I got my doppler during my last pregnancy, after I was hospitalized after a car accident around 13 weeks. I used it maybe once a week until I could feel movement regularly. This time around I've been a little more anxious - not to the point of raising my blood pressure, not sleeping, etc etc but perhaps as a result of less stress thanks to my now-toddler or my advancing age. I find it reassuring (when I can find the hb, ha!) during the in-between stage, where you're starting to tell people but can't feel movement and don't really look pregnant. Totally to each their own and thanks so much to those who shared thoughts ! Happy and healthy pregnancy wishes to all.
Yes but it is giving you a false sense of security. Just b/c you can hear the heartbeat doesn't mean something else more serious is not wrong.
This argument makes no sense.
Makes total sense. You find the heartbeat and think oh perfect, baby is fine, and don't go in. Something else could be wrong though but you won't know b/c you don't go to the doctor.
