Money aside we don't have enough vacation time to do that, so I'm jealous just of your free time!

Just spent roughly 5K for two weeks in Europe. Will try to do another one-week getaway to some place warm in the dead of winter. That'll probably be another 3K. That adds up to about 3.5% of the gross.

Spend all our money on private school and mortgage but would like to change that. Really, really want to take a vacation. We also have debt that we need to pay off and we need to save for college and retirement and make repairs on our house. Not sure if vacation is in our future.

That would be a dealbreaker.

I wouldn't have married him. Actually, wouldn't have gotten past the first date.

You discuss whether or not you like vacations on a first date?

Well, I would probably say I love to travel within the first five minutes. If the response was "eew" that would be it.

So it would be a deal breaker for you! I developed a desire to travel more as my work travel slowed down. We do vacation, but not far away and not by plane.

It's not a real vacation if you don't fly there.

Just curious -- what percentage of you HHI in that? For us it would be like 30% of what we make in a year, so that's obviously a no go. On the other hand, it sounds reasonable if your HHI is 400-500k, especially if you don't have any kids.

A little under 1% of our gross income.

Yeah, sounds like a cheap bastard.

Not cheap, lazy. Doesn't like to get out of his comfort zone. Has IBS, so needs constant access to a bathroom and has a hard time with schedule disruptions and time zone changes.

I can understand this and I like to travel. I had "stomach problems" for 2 years and the thought of travel was stressful. Always worried about eating out and running to a bathroom.

1-2%. We travel 3-5x/yr. 2-3x are to see family (they live in vacationy places) so our only expenses are 4 plane tickets.
