Geez OP, cut the leash off your daughter. It's prom!!! Did you pick out what underwear she should wear too? I understand you bought it for her but I feel bad for your daughter if you made a face towards the dress or expressed that you don't like it. Awful if you did.

Seriously? This is the perfect illustration of differences of opinion. I hate your choice. Like your daughter's.

OP, you're on crack. That dress is adorable! I even like the dark blue color. Sheesh.

FWIW, I don't think it's that bad. I'd only draw the line at something obscenely short and skanky. Plus, ugly prom dresses are a rite of passage for all women. You can't tell me we don't all have at least one that makes us cringe when we see it now!

I love that dress! Let her make her own choice. When I was a senior there's no way I would have picked a spring color for my prom dress!

I don't mind color (or certain colors), but hate pastels with a vengeance - that's just my personal preference. Color preference is seriously not that big of a deal, and glad the OP seems to be respecting her daughter's choices.

FYI: I posted *my* dress to show color, not style.

Another one who likes your daughter's dress (and color) much more than the one that you posted. I understand that you picked it for color and not style, but even the aqua color is not a great look unless you have medium tones. With dark tones, you don't want something that pastel. It sounds like she has winter coloration and you want her to wear spring colors which only works for some people and only some of the time. Let her go with the royal blue. She can lighten up the makeup a shade or two and not be too dark.

FWIW, we are AA. Daughter has a caramel complexion (think Kerry Washington), so bright colors look great on her skin tone. But, I've said forget it and bought the dress she wants. DD is self-conscious about her body, so the ultimate goal is to find something she will feel comfortable and confident wearing.

Your choice looks dated and old, like somethin a 30 year old woman would wear to an event.

If it is not skanky and fits in the budget, let her pick what she feels pretty in. It is one night that over the course of her life will be a happy blip on her radar. It is not like it is 1950 and Prom is the most important day of her life before she graduates, gets married and starts having babies.
