A yard/garage sale is a great idea. Or sell things individually on either Craigslist or E~bay/Amazon.

Do you have any consignment shops in your area? If so, they would be a great resource if you own any gently used name brand clothing items.

Or how about placing an ad on Craigslist as either a babysitter, maid, elderly aide or driver.
If you like animals, why not try being a pet sitter or a dog walker?

Also, Care.com and sittercity.com are free to use and are great ways to find families in need of domestic help.

Be creative.
Post ads in laundromats for services.
Make fliers and hand them out in upper class neighborhoods where many residents need maids and dog walkers.

Anonymous wrote:Could your husband look for some short term day work? I know I've hired people to help me move off of Craigslist, things like that.

I had a similar financial emergency and was able to come up with the money by asking to take a month off on my car payment (that was a few hundred bucks), submitting a bunch of receipts I'd been saving for my HSA, temporarily changing my witholding on my paycheck at work, finding creative ways to eat what was in my pantry, and selling some stuff. None of these things actually brought in money, they basically just moved expenses from the present to the future (e.g. I had planned on submitting those receipts in time to buy Christmas gifts, and I'll now have to pay one month longer on the car payment), but they took care of the emergency.

Good luck!

This is a good idea. Also, if either of you are good at assembling IKEA furniture people pay well to do that. Just advertise on Craigslist.

I am interested in the gofundme account. How would i set that up for myself. Meaning, in what way would i make it so that it would gain the attention of people willing to donate?

Lazy ass. All these suggestions on how you could actually work for it and you want a handout. I am not even one of those people who get worked up about welfare and other matters like this but you are annoying. Not only do you want a handout but then you want someone to tell you how to make your hand nice and shiny. Lazy ass. Here's a clue- tell your husband to figure it out.

Um, I think that i have demonstrated that I am everything but lazy. DH has now been taking small day laboring jobs. We have held 2 yard sales and I took the advice and picked up a pt job as well as my ft. You are a judgmental ass.

Not only lazy ass, but have a bad attitude as well.

Just be careful. If your husband is collecting unemployment, he is required to report any income that he makes for part-time or temp work including day labor. They will recalculate how much unemployment he receives based on the part-time income that he is earning.

If you don't report it and you get audited or if he goes to one of the day-labor shop fronts, they often have to report who is hired and you both could have to pay a penalty for taking in unreported income while collecting unemployment. He really should be reporting it.

Have you tried selling items on ebay? I know several people who go on Saturdays and hit up yard sales in more affluent neighborhoods and buy a bunch of things are low prices and then resell on ebay. One makes a few hundred dollars a week doing this, he specializes in books and he often picks up a case or two of books for steals (like a case for $5-10) and then resells the books for like $2-3 apiece. I've also heard of someone (a friend of a friend) who does this with gently used clothing, but she has a good eye for what's a good bargain and what will resell easily and for a decent price.

Having been there was an unemployed husband who was depressed and wouldn't get off his ass to even to get the kids ready for school while I worked 2 jobs, I get that sometimes DHs aren't helpful. It sucks.

Gross. Have DH WORK. Don't beg.

Well, if she needs $2k for something like hospital bills for a sick child, I think a gofunme account is appropriate. If she needs $2k for something like Junior going to baseball camp, I'd say have a yard sale, sell anything in the house you don't need.

My employer has a short term emergency loan program, particularly if you work for a bigger employer you might want to check and see if they have anything like that.

I am sure there is something you have -- car, jewelry, etc., that could be pawned/mortgaged.

Look into a signature loan from your credit union/bank. $2k should be under your limit; if your income is above say $50-$60k.

I'd have hubby look into Leap Force at Home. It's kept my sister in clover for several years.

Yard sale of all un-wanted items.
