Anonymous wrote:I really disagree with those who have recommended going with both schools, one for each child. Yes, people move their children all the time. Some kids will cope better than others with this, but it is disruptive - very, if your child takes a while to settle. There is a decision to be taken - just take it now! Going with both is just prolonging the agony. Mandarin is great, obviously, but going to a neighbourhood school is really priceless. Less time in the car, less rushing to get there on time, and a real sense of belonging to a community for your children (and you). As long as your kids have a supportive family (and it sounds like they do), the difference in test scores isn't going to mean anything.

Believe it or not, I was actually here seeking informed advice. With vitriolic exceptions like 13:33, I received it, particularly re. considering the commute.
But you're claiming to have been offered a spot from a school (YY) which is meticulous about following a certain process, which includes removing a child's name from the waitlist when they are offering a spot. No names have moved since the last round of offers. So OP, when did you get your offer, and why hasn't the waitlist moved?

life/commute wise. Haynes.
either way, great choices.
Interesting... what do you base your assessment that academics are better at YY? Outside of the language element, I always thought Haynes was superior on academics?
Agree.
Anyone know their DC CAS scores?
Yu Ying's are much better. It also has a higher rating on Greatschools and a higher rating from the PCSB.
Better consistently across all grades (up to 5th anyway)? I find that hard to believe. Since the other ratings are not grade specific, I guess I understand those. But was YY even on PCSB's rating list last year beyond being a PreK?
Yes, significantly better. There is only data for 2 grades, because YY has only administered the DC CAS for 2 years (this is the 3rd, but obviously those results aren't in yet, as they're taking it this week). The scores are 15% to 30% higher across the board.

The deadline was Monday for getting your YY enrollment paperwork in for those off the waitlist. When YY takes people off the list and makes offers, they remove their names from the WL online. NO NAMES have been removed from the online waitlist since the Monday deadline.
Anyone saying they have to make a YY decision this week is full of it. This is just a cold-hearted troll that likes making people who have no choices feel even worse. Ignore it.
