Sometimes an admissions office will have "one that got away," a student they really liked who ends up attending another school. We heard about one from an AD when we were interviewing with her. No need to name names. But with the demand for these slots, the schools get over it pretty fast.

Who knows. Schools officials are not always intellectually honest. At Open Houses, they will declare that test scores don't matter, or are only one factor, but of course we know there are cutoffs for SSAT's, etc., and accepted students who fall below those numbers have some special hook or circumstances.
