And bankrupt due to commercial tax revenue falling. Probably because of nearby new developments like tysons and mosaic.

10:44 - I hear ya. It can get annoying. I lived in Merrifield for many years and near the end, they started working on the hot lanes, rte 29 improvements, the pan am shopping center and the mosaic district all at once. Every drive became hell. I moved into Arlington partly for commuting reasons and feel like the same thing is happening there! For awhile, we had to cross the street an additional 2 times because a sidewalk we used to get to preschool was closed for a block. Oh well.

Good lord-- I am absolutely SICK of all the damn construction. We have an addition going on at every damn house on the street. Two or 3 major condos being built--on across from kid's preschool playground. Road construction on 50. I found out 3 more houses (though they are shanty, group) being torn down and replaced. A million dollar dog park a few blocks away. There are more cranes in Downtown courthouse/clarendon/ballston than Shanghai. We are coming immune to the banging and truck back-up noise. When is this oasis going to be done???
I just read are real estate taxes are being proposed for another huge hike so the money-hungry board can do more development projects. Enough!
Rant over. I guess it is good for property values. Carry on!

I actually decided against a potential house that was perfect in many ways, because of its proximity to Montgomery Mall. It would just depress me constantly to have that be my closest destination.

This is kind of a straw-man argument where Tysons is concerned. People may view the malls as a plus, or be indifferent to them, but most people living in or near Tysons do so because it's close to their jobs, or because they like the schools, housing and other amenities. On the other hand, if everything were equal, I'd rather be near Tysons than some other mall.
