I have a friend adopting a newborn and she is almost 48 and her DH is 51. I really think this is probably not a great idea. And I'm thinking of later when they are 70 with a kid in college. But I guess I will stay out of it.

This is an interesting thread. I had my DS when I had just turned 37. He is almost six years old now. DH is a few years older. We are doing fine and we are healthy (and so is DS), but we do get exhausted quite a bit while also working FT. DS is a joy and I could not imagine my life without him. My friends always tell me to add another one and that he should not grow up to be an only child. I worry about this a LOT, but we are not going to have another baby. I am 43 years old now and while I'm still fit and have energy, I can imagine that this may change a bit as I get older and enter menopause. Having more children would most definitely stretch our very limited resources and I don't want to put that burden on DS. Maybe if we had more money, I would have thought about it, but as things are right now, I would not feel that it is a wise decision to add any more children to our family.
