I teach 3rd grade AAP in FCPS and I have so many under qualified kids whose parents forced them into GT. These kids struggle to do their work and should not be here even though they are brilliant! I wish i had students who applied themselves to their work. Because so many parents appeal and threaten to sue we have kids who are the equivalnet of mushrooms in our AAP program. They thrive on shit and they are shit. I wish things went bacvk to when I began in the county and the GT kids were actually bright. Now most are ther because their parents are pushy.

As others have said, hope this is a troll and not a teacher who has become unhinged. I do think all the extreme test prep, appeals and parents pushing kids who are not best suited for the program probably results in kids placed in classes that are not a good match. I am sure this can be highly frustrating for hard working teachers. I also do believe in some ways the GT programs were better years ago before parents had so much power. However, I cannot imagine a teacher in the AAP program would not be more eloquent in presenting her/his concerns and disillusionment.

I withdrew my child. We weren't kicked out but the teacher made it clear to me she didn't think it was working.

Child had excellent testing-in scores but just is not motivated and cannot focus, has difficulties with math, disorganized, etc.

How long has it been since you withdrew your child? Are you glad you did it? How is he doing now? How is his confidence? How does he like school?
