I guess learning math is also a terrible idea because you say so and will tell us when we should expose our children to math and/or fun and the how, why, and what of this exposure to math.
Take a hike with your key.

And math and number sense is a useless skill only for lacrosse players. You lady ... are the thick one. Isn't being saved by the Lord by praying and going to church a life-saving and giving skill also?

You dummy!

Lord have mercy....

1. Not everyone believes in the Lord, church, or praying so it's not a life saving skill to everyone. And by the way, that is about your after-life. Learning to swim is about your physical life here on earth
2. For a person who seems to believe in the Lord, you sure seem unkind by calling someone a dummy. Yes, I know, we are all sinners, no one is perfect, blah blah blah.

You mean the "One key does not fit all locks."? Yea, I agree. Very vitrolic...defensive even.

Would you stop going to church or synagogue because you read a blog that this is devious and silly activity only useful for getting your money with contributions? Is this your evidence base? My kids like kumon with us so will will continue. They do not like lacrosse so I will not waste any money and time on this stupid and mindless activity for my children. I hope you get the drift. One key does not fit all locks.

You are really thick.

Has there been any indication/suggestion that your child would be otherwise underprepared for Kinder? I'll admit I'm pretty shocked that this is so popular before K.

I was the poster who sent my kid to Kumon a year before kinder because he was at a play-based preschool. I wasn't worried he would be underprepared for Kinder because I knew he was going to public school where they take everyone no matter what level. My goals were not necessarily that he would learn to read. I wanted: 1) for him to sit at a table and work independently for 10 to 15 minutes on a paper and pencil task at home five days a week; 2) learn to form the letters correctly (top to bottom, proper height, etc.); 3) sit at a table with two to four other kids and be able to stay seated in a chair, listen to a teacher, and do his work without getting distracted or distracting others two days a week.

I spent a total of 1500 dollars getting him ready for kinder (125 dollars a month for 12 months). As an added bonus he did learn to read simple sentences. He was well prepared and really enjoyed his kindergarten year.

I'm the pp, thanks for this!

Kumon isn't evidence based but neither is faith. Not sure if you're wasting your time at church but you definitely are with Kumon.

Now any activity parents do with their children (e.g., kumon, going to synagogue, going to mosque, painting, playing video games, watching movie after movie, reading, rafting, hanging out on the beach) must fulfill some criteria of evidence based? Please define and explain?

If you are not prepared to pay my childrens' bills and look after them I would suggest you allow them to enjoy kumon and kittles. This does not disturb the life and liberty of you and your children. Do you agree?

Some might argue the opposite. I am certain you are wasting your time at church! Who is right? You, I suspect? Will you pay my child's bills too?

Some parents want their kids to swim at an early age. Is this necessary? According to who and whom? MCPS, you, the Delphi Oracle or NCAP?
Some parents want their kids to learn their multiplication tables by the age of 4 to 5. Is this necessary? According to who or whom? Just because the parent learned their multiplication tables by the age of 4 should they impose their will on their children, too? How about religion? Impose on their children? According to who, whom (Yaweh)?
