Gag.
Why? Because I had my kids young enough to regain my health and strength? Because I work out so I look good in damn near anything? Yes, I work full time and always have---I'm a single mom. Because my 23 year old and I share jeans, dresses, and tshirts? We are the same size--why not? I'm not old enough to be decrepit and I really don't care what people think I should wear. I have white hair and have since I was 30---why color it? No one who actually matters will judge me on that.
DC is the land of the frump. If you want to look like that, have fun.
Anonymous wrote:Get in shape, that will fix the jeans problem. Gap fits me just fine: if you don't have a ginormous ass, they will look ok.

I think I'd look better in a shorter cut, but I'm having trouble convincing my husband to let go of the long hairI'll work on that first. Make up is a great idea - I think I'll hit Sephora or something and get some tips.
As for clothes, I love the What I Wore blog - if I could look like her every day, I would feel great.
I like J Crew (even though a lot of it is flashy or cheapy these days - still some great looks). I spend a lot of time looking in Loft just because it's so cheap and sort of casual trendy, but their clothes are such terrible quality and I really need to get out of there. Any store suggestions would be great.
I'm also looking for a good mid-sized purse to carry around out to dinner or on the weekends. Something classic looking, but maybe with a bit of color.
OP, I'm sorry but short cut pretty much automatically means mom hair, so keep the long hair, just get a trendier cut. If you want GOOD makeup tips, skip Sephora and head to Blue Mercury or a department store makeup counter (just for god's sake don't go to Clinique).
Also, Lands End (someone previously suggested it) also automatically equals mom clothes, unless you're looking at their Canvas line which has some pretty cute stuff. Don't shop there. Maybe Madewell, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, and shop on Asos.com for trendier clothes.
OP, I especially agree with the bolded. Get a stylish haircut that works with your longer hair. I go to Progressions in Rockville, but that may be too much of a hike for you. Also, it's fairly expensive, but in my opinion worth it. A haircut and color person - if you need color - will work magic.
For the make-up consider going to a Bobbi Brown counter at Nordstrom or another department store.

They are worth the extra cost. For the size 4s out there, wear leggings with longer shirts. I would go to h&m for the leggings and a couple flowy, boyfriend shirts. Throw a vest or drapey cardigan on it if you need more warmth. I got turned onto cashmere sweaters lately and will never go back. The downside is that I can only afford one a season, but there are so many out there that are not "momish". Good luck and post some photos of your finds if you need opinions...
I am a size 2-4, and this is never a good look for me because I have breasts (not huge - 32D) and usually look fat/bloated/pregnant or just like I never got out of my pajamas in the flowy shirt/leggings combination.
