Lots of private employers don't give MLK off. Doctor's offices are usually open. Retailers are ALWAYS open. My employer (consulting firm) is open, hubby's CPA firm is open.
Racist
Colleges are open that day. I remember not having MLK day off in college.
Liberty university doesn't count!
Seriously, we're you in college before 2000?

The guy (or possibly gal in the future), is already in office and has already taken the oath, why go through it all again? Seems like a waste of time, money and effort.
I thought they did bag it.
Pretty sure I remember W had a full-blown second inauguration.
You'd celebrate the second time around too if you were accused of stealing the first election.

Better yet, just ask him (or her) if they want to keep working another term after 4 years rather than expending all that time, money, and effort on re-electing them.

Because its a federal holiday- the federal govt shuts down its hard to be at your desk when your office is closed. BTW, fed are not getting a extra day off bc MLK day and inauguration day falls on the same day.
But that's my point. This is the silly kind of thing that gives Fed employees a bad name in the rest of the country -- extra vacation when everyone else has to work. Unless you work for the agencies impacted that day, it's just bad PR at a time when you don't need anymore of it.
