Of course I would rather see the massive military machine reduced than PBS de-funded. Why isn't that on the table? It constitutes a massive portion of the budget.
PBS is 1/3000 of the budget, 400 million dollars. Can you think of a reason why a candidate trying to prove his fiscal plan would focus on this in a major speech?
I can. It is to convince the public that the budget problems can be solved by rummaging through the couch to find lost liberal money that does not require a sacrifice.

Look who is squealing loudest about last years budget deal. Republicans aren't against spending or deficits. They oppose liberal priorities and that's it.

Just to be clear, which candidate (in your mind) is focusing on this in a major speech?

This is your chance to do an about face and say something to the effect "obviously I wasn't saying EITHER of them were focusing on Big Bird in a major speech". Even though we know ONE of them actually used Big Bird in a campaign ad! hahahahaha.

Yes, Germany and Switzerland are really failing.

The OP didn't specify what european country.

I'd trade everything for a swiss passport tomorrow and leave tomorrow no matter who/what party is in power here.

Really?

Better learn how to use a gun, hate Muslims, have at least $1m to buy a house, have your sons serve in the Army, hope they never marry a foreigner as they'll never become citizens, work in banking (the only industry), oh and hate Jews.

Have fun.

BS. If Bachmann can become a Swiss citizen, so can any foreign spouse. (Really, you can.)
And as far as the hating: Yeah, right, because we have none of that here... and are you against serving in the military on principle? Is it only good for others, but not your sons, or what?
Learn to use a gun, because you are moving to Switzerland?? What?

Your stereotypes are awful, and untrue.

Hate to break it to you, but most Democrats don't have a problem with giving a gun to someone serving in the militia.

I moved to Canada after Bush was reelected. It's much better.

Fortunately, we outnumber them in the states that matter. Obama will win.

Right. Because there were NO "gullible people" voting for Obama because of stupid things they believed.

Why would you want to live in the free, risky, big dreams, tough people, wide open, more fun, sexier, cutting edge , immensely powerful, bigger than life. U.S. when you like little, weak, safe, dreamless, boring, suicidal Europe?

I love the total lack of understanding of economies of scale. According to the World Factbook, Norway is slightly larger than the state of New Mexico, and for that matter, the UK ~ Oregon. It is a recipe for disaster!

Why not? Economy of scale should provide an advantage.

HA! I was just about to reply to my own message. My point is this, and it's a total generalization which I apologize for. But I realized this as I was visiting relatives and was handed a local GOP flier. The bottom line generally is Republicans don't/won't/SHOULDN'T promise services that aren't sustainable, Democrats by and large typically do the reverse. Rather than reform them or god forbid break the promise for the greater good of fixing them for the next generation, they often times demonize the other side for taking away this or that. It doesn't get us very far IMHO.

This is probably also suitable for the other thread on what you dislike about your party.

To answer your question, I am not an economist, but I think it's been proven that many of our services do not meet their customer's expectations. Take the VA for example, one of the biggest problems is those wanting to get in vs. those already in. My understanding is those in it, are satisfied, it's those waiting to get into the system. We have approximetaly (sic) 25 million veterans, and still cannot meet those needs. How can we expand or broaden services with that track record?
