Is there still a CHADD DC? I looked up the support groups on their website but couldn’t find one for DC. My elementary school son was just diagnosed and while he’s doing fine right now, I realized I’m in need of support.

Curious to know! Also interested in a support group in the NW DC area.

Dear PP - yes I did the parent child journey last year and it was interrupted by COVID so the last 4 weeks or so was only on Zoom. It was helpful to me. Dr. Dan is kind, experienced and holds free parent zoom meetings every Monday. I do feel like it was useful to my family since our SN kid is very young. If you have already had any type of parent training it may not be very useful to you.

Two more points: 1) I installed this app on my phone and a lot of it is very similar to the Parent Child Journey. It's called Love While Parenting. I have no affiliation with this app or Dr. Dan.

2) Pretty much the entirety of the class is available for free on the website. You can buy his book on Amazon as well if you want the full shebang. He says so during his class, that for many parents - the value of his class is hearing and sharing with the other parents that are going through the same things with their children. Anxiety, ADHD, autism, depression. Also, if you are the parent of a SN child, it is likely or possible that you are SN yourself! So reading independently may be difficult for you to do.

Has anyone tried the Parent Child Journey (www.ParentChildJourney.com) program for parents ? It's a parent support/training group lead by a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician. Before I pay for the 10-week sessions, I want to know if anyone has tried it and if it has helped.

I have an 8 year old with ASD and ADHD and a 10 year old with mild ADHD, and have teamed up with an awesome local speech therapist/family communication specialist to put together a class on Zoom geared towards parents of higher needs kids (kids with behavioral, learning or developmental challenges and/or special needs), sharing practical strategies that can help make life less insane, especially in the age of this Coronavirus! Last time we ran the class (which we started in person and had to shift midway to Zoom because of the virus) we created a What's App group that we still use to stay in touch, share resources and connect with one another whenever we need. There is also a Fairfax county special needs facebook group that my friend invited me to -- Fairfax County Special Ed PTA group, and there are good supports there too.

My son has sensory processing disorder and very challenging behavioral issues. He is 7. Looking for a parent support group. I am located in Fairfax county. Is anyone aware of any groups?
