We already HAVE a secular government. Our nation is supposed to be secular. Did you miss that part of civics??
No marching needed.
Practice religion in church, and in your daily life. By all means carry out actions based on your religious beliefs and vite based on your religious beliefs. But the actual practice of government and electing people, writing platforms, etc should be secular.

Where do you see anyone getting up on stage and saying anything about the non-existence of god? All we are asking is that irrelevant issues not be brought in. There is no moral equivalence between the guy banging on your head and you asking him to stop banging.Anonymous wrote:"The media likes to talk about how the Christian right has hijacked the Republican party, but why not apply a similar standard to the other side? The convention is proof-positive the secular left has overtaken the Democratic party."

I said it before but I'll say it again. God didn't want Donald Trump to speak! God can't stand him!Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Hmmm, anyone find it interesting that right after the Dems removed "God" from the wording (and booed "God"), they had to move Obama's speech inside for fear of lightening?!? um, how about hurricanes delaying 2 republican conventions...and a republican governor who asks for federal money while his party rails against it? I mean, come on, if you're gonna use weather as a sign from above...
Hmm, but the hurricane never did hit Tampa after all, did it?Curiouser and curiouser. . ..
Hope you're right. I would have thought that Saddam also presented a lousy problem with no clear or easy way to resolve it and Bush went ahead and invaded anyway - even though there were no WMD and no convincing evidence that there might be. But I pray you're right, pp!Anonymous wrote:Umm, wrong PP - Obama was talking engagement in 2008 and Hillary slammed him for it. Never mind, it's all water under the bridge now and neither Obama's engagement or Hillary's sanctions have gotten us any closer to a solution on Iran. And btw Romney talks a lot tougher, but I guarantee you that in office he will pursue effectively the same policy toward Tehran as Obama has. Truth is that Iran presents a lousy problem with no clear or easy way to resolve it.Certainly Obama in 2008 was tougher toward Iran than Hillary was, and both were plenty tough talking back then.
Forgive the hijack here. Back to the usual programming. I thought that platform discussion was an embarassment to all of us. I can see why they wanted to add the language (even if I don't agree with the substance, it's good politics.) But once you're in a situation where the process has gone awry (e.g., nothing close to 2/3 support in a voice vote), don't try to deny reality on national TV. Really really badly handled.

no, it just hit a state with a republican governor...and reminded us of the mess that was Katrina.
It hit Mississippi also. Also, a deeply republican state with a repub gov.
