We already HAVE a secular government. Our nation is supposed to be secular. Did you miss that part of civics??

No marching needed.

Practice religion in church, and in your daily life. By all means carry out actions based on your religious beliefs and vite based on your religious beliefs. But the actual practice of government and electing people, writing platforms, etc should be secular.

Where do you see anyone getting up on stage and saying anything about the non-existence of god? All we are asking is that irrelevant issues not be brought in. There is no moral equivalence between the guy banging on your head and you asking him to stop banging.

um, how about hurricanes delaying 2 republican conventions...and a republican governor who asks for federal money while his party rails against it? I mean, come on, if you're gonna use weather as a sign from above...

Hmm, but the hurricane never did hit Tampa after all, did it? Curiouser and curiouser. . ..
I said it before but I'll say it again. God didn't want Donald Trump to speak! God can't stand him!

Certainly Obama in 2008 was tougher toward Iran than Hillary was, and both were plenty tough talking back then.
Umm, wrong PP - Obama was talking engagement in 2008 and Hillary slammed him for it. Never mind, it's all water under the bridge now and neither Obama's engagement or Hillary's sanctions have gotten us any closer to a solution on Iran. And btw Romney talks a lot tougher, but I guarantee you that in office he will pursue effectively the same policy toward Tehran as Obama has. Truth is that Iran presents a lousy problem with no clear or easy way to resolve it.

Forgive the hijack here. Back to the usual programming. I thought that platform discussion was an embarassment to all of us. I can see why they wanted to add the language (even if I don't agree with the substance, it's good politics.) But once you're in a situation where the process has gone awry (e.g., nothing close to 2/3 support in a voice vote), don't try to deny reality on national TV. Really really badly handled.

Hope you're right. I would have thought that Saddam also presented a lousy problem with no clear or easy way to resolve it and Bush went ahead and invaded anyway - even though there were no WMD and no convincing evidence that there might be. But I pray you're right, pp!

No one has answered my earlier question about how exactly leaving out one word from a party platform alienates people...

Not allowing folks to practice their religion, THAT would be alienating people. No one is suggesting that...

Religion doesn't belong in governance, period. It is an empty, hollow gesture as far as I am concerned.

If we wanted a religious government, our ancestors would have stayed in England, dumbasses.

Obviously, the secular left failed in its takeover. Pity.

Can someone provide a quick update??
I'm at work but saw a snippet that God, Jesus, Jews and Israel are all in... so God's OK now?

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, you know that comment was not funny yet you lower yourself to comment. I know you have the intelligence to raise the level of this debate and not simply react. you are better than that, Jeff!

First they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

People stealing? Nonetheless, taking advantage of a natural disaster when others are looking the other way, to take items that do not belong to them? Yeah, I don't feel sorry for that one bit.

How is leaving the word God out of a party platform alienating people? Honestly, they should have just left it out instead of forcing it back in. THIS is a religious litmus test forced on parties.

Guess what? The first amendment gives you what you want - the freedom to practice religion as you choose. If we all remember our history, part of the reason people set sail for the new world was freedom to practice religions the state didn't allow.

The party platform is about what government policies the party endorses. Separation of Church and State? Not ringing a bell? God doesn't actually belong in there because God has nothing to do with how the government functions.

no, it just hit a state with a republican governor...and reminded us of the mess that was Katrina.

It hit Mississippi also. Also, a deeply republican state with a repub gov.

I don't think you've been to the Gulf states because the people that get deeply affected are your precious "99% voting for obama" bloc. Sooo... I don't know.
