this

for us, it wasn't until ~3 years old for each. and even now we still have frequent visitors. but we are all happy! I wouldn't have said well-rested for the first year or so but it's what we chose to do.

NO here. Do what works for your family, but realize that a mother's body is a newborn's natural habitat. We are mammals, and separation from a parent/caregiver for hours at a time is unnatural for a young baby. Sleeping alone doesn't cause SIDS, but sleeping near an adult makes it statistically less likely. Plus, baby snuggles are awesome!

It is up to you, but we had our little one sleeping in the bassinet part of our play yard/pack n play in our room for 4 months and then to his room. But I recommend using the MamaDoo Kids mattress topper for extra comfort. Our little one would wake up every hour he was so uncomfortable! It is firm, snug and folds in 3. Good luck!

NP here and I didn't read through, so don't know where the thread has gone.

We looked at it more as how long DC "should" stay in our room, which the AAP recommends as at least 6 months. Cosleeping in the form of room sharing reduces the SIDS risk for various reasons, which peaks at 2-4 months and is almost nothing at 6 months (fewer than 5% of SIDS deaths occur in babies over 6 months old). Other doctors (our pediatrician included) recommended up to a year as long as we weren't disturbing each other's sleep. We moved DC from cosleeper in the bed to crib at 4 months and then moved the crib into DC's own room at 9 months.

Same here, PP. I was a sleepless zombie wreck until I moved him into his own digs. To each his own...

We have 2 children and the first one was in her own bedroom at about 6-8 weeks and the second one was in her own room at about 2.5 months. Both sleep very well in their own rooms. Do it when it feels right for you. DH and I are both happier with our room to ourselves and the babies are just fine.
