I'm trying to guess whether the baby brand whores are white exurban strivers with unwittingly bad highlights OR a certain type of mom of color I know, closer in, who shop too much on credit. And lease.

The same thing annoys me about people's commentary on my own designer accessories. I recycle things when I tire of them and quality items from quality brands sell with ease on ebay. Sometimes for more than I paid. The highlight of my ebay sales has been a chanel bag i bought for 1600 and sold for 3400 and a vintage crocodile Fendi bag I bought for $700 and sold for $3000. Clothing doesn't appreciate the same, however sometimes you get lucky and people pay more than you did because it is sold out or a past season they can no longer get. I like having fewer quality items
especially for wardrobe staple items and handbags and cheap stuff is solely for workout clothes or knits for loungi
ng at home. I am currently expect a girl and selling off all my sons items that he has grown out of that are no unisex and recycling that money into girls clothes.

I wouldn't explain away why you spend a lot of money on your kid's clothes. It's no one's business what you spend. You obviously have the money to do it if that's where you're shopping, and it sucks that you feel like you have to make excuses for having the money to shop there for your kids. If I were you, I would just say "thanks" when people compliment their clothing or how cute they look. That's it. No explanation of what you bought on sale, etc. People shouldn't have to explain away why they have money -- it's not something you should feel guilty about.
Trust me, we are not jealous. I am just in disbelief that this is actually a subject swimming around in someone's head. DumDum.

Clearly you and I have very different HHI. That being said, I love to occasionally look at websites for things like J&J since they are beautiful and who knows, I might catch an amazing sale.
I often comment if I see a child in a cute outfit and tell the mom how adorable the child looks, but never ask or reference cost. A simple "Thanks so much!" is a totally fine response. If someone mentions price, a gracious "I'm a huge fan of end of season sales" again does the trick even if you happen to pay full price.

Wheat is much cuter than J&J, which I don't really care for. I tend to dress my DS in Crewcuts for play clothes, Papo d'Anjo for dress. Unfortunately, Papo went out of business but I am getting some handed down items. I just love that style. If anyone has recommendations for similar styles I would love them! FYI, I don't particularly like Gucci or Burberry for boys.

OP, I probably can't afford Janie and Jack (I usually shop at Target, and the like and I'm more of a quantity vs quality gal
), but I'm not surprised that there would be some great sales at times. If others comment, it's totally fine to say you got it on sale, though it isn't really their business.

My DD mostly wears J&J, sometimes Baby Dior, and Naturino shoes. I get them on eBay and consignment, because I love the quality at those prices. For the same price, I prefer doing this than buying new outfits at Target.
Being RELATIVELY poor (for this forum and this area) does not mean I cannot choose pretty things for my children or forego retirement.

So you are saying that if I buy J & J second hand and you buy it new, my child will have less pride in their appearance than yours?? My child will know he has a blue shirt..that is hopefully clean and comfortable. My child will know that your child also has a blue shirt...and probably think that is very cool.
