So STFU and get back to work you government lackey. DC is such a great city. You have very "City" like neighborhoods like Georgetown, Dupont, Logan, Capitol Hill, very suburban 'hoods like Palisades, Spring Valley, Takoma, CCDC, Hill Crest and everything in between. The people who hate it here are those who just didn't succeed at what they came out here to do. Sorry you're not the top LA for a Senator, or you didn't make Post Master General. Suck it up.
Oh the irony! A stop bitching thread to bitch.

I agree. I grew up here and I like it. I don't appreciate everyone from Bumblefuck appearing here as if they were God's gift and clogging up my raods, jacking up prices, and then complaining about it. You don't like it? Go home. Good riddance. We won't miss you. Here's a clue: no one cares.

Meaning you couldn't cut it there so have to settle for DC?

Yes, I hate DC. Though not because it's not the nostalgic big city older sibling of Bumblefuck, PA. I love my flyover home town, and really wish I could have achieved the same level of success there as I do here. I don't hate DC because I couldn't cut it. In fact it's quite the opposite. I've achieved professionally well beyond my wildest aspirations. I enjoy all of the unique things our city has to offer, and my children benefit from receiving a much better education here than I did in Bumble. My neighborhood is wonderful and I have great friends.
Despite that, I still really do hate it here. The reason is people like OP. You ruin it for me with your cynical, angry, cutthroat, ultra-competitive, bitchy, judgmental attitude that everyone must act and be the same otherwise they must be too pedestrian to hack it. I hate people like you and this town is full of them. Bumblefuck has their share of turds too, but at least they are genuine. So thanks a lot OP. Thanks for ruining what would otherwise be a really great situation.
Here's a tip. Why don't you simply enjoy the fact that you have the gift of conformity which clearly has allowed you wild success in this town, instead of resenting that there are others out there who made it via more natural talents. If our remaining in DC despite not liking you is that much of a reminder of your shallow nature, why don't you just move to LA? You'll find it's a lot less threatening out there.

Sorry, but if you're THAT miserable and you constantly complain about the city - then do something about it! It's a bit pathetic and becomes draining after a while.
So does your bitching about other people's bitching. People don't always like where they are in the moment, and have reasons they can't do anything about it right now to satisfy you. Believe me, anyone who hates this place is making plans to leave. It just takes a while. Why do people take such offense when people don't fall on their knees and express constant gratitude for living here? It's a city for crying out loud. It's nothing personal.
Wow, you're the one who sounds angry. All I'm saying is that it's draining to constantly hear negativity. If you're stuck here for a while, maybe accept the fact it's not your dream place but make the best of it? Exhausting.
But calling people pathetic who don't have the means to leave a city they don't like living in is the pillar of positive thinking. Gotcha.
Sorry but when it's non-stop whining, it is pathetic - and I feel sure that these people would not be happy anywhere. I'm not talking about someone who just doesn't care for the city or doesn't think it's their dream home, I'm talking about the constant whiners.
So don't read these threads! It's not that hard not to click on it. Don't listen, don't read, don't engage. But this is a thread started by a complete asshole who said if you don't like it here, get out. That's going to bring out a lot of reaction from people, and then for you to come on here and refer to people who don't love it here as whining and pathetic, you're in the same boat as the OP. Close your ears, don't listen, tune them out. Take responsibility. Other people have the right to their own opinions without you calling them pathetic. They don't have to share your views.
I for one have been happy here. Then not happy here. Happy elsewhere. All of it. It's situational and family oriented and everything. Nobody on here is non-stop whining because it's a limited thread. If you have issues with people in your own life, deal with them and stop hurling it at the people in this thread.
I made that comment NOT solely based on DCUM, but based on what I hear from actual people I know on a regular basis .. and sorry, but it's annoying and exhausting- which is why I wanted to respond to this thread. I didn't view OP as touting DC to be the best of the best or saying it must be your dream city - rather that he/she is sick of hearing people talk about how much they dislike it blah blahblah. "It's not a city, NYC is a city" ETC. ETC. Who would even attempt to compare DC to NYC or Chicago?? It's DC, not meant to be like anywhere else. It is the people who are on their high-horses that I'm referring to. We lived in Dupont for 7 years, and now upper NW. Do I really love London and sometimes miss it? I do. But are there great things about DC that we've been able to take advantage of? There are. We're really enjoying our time here. I also tend to think a lot of the people who dislike it are the ones who are struggling financially and living in the burbs, not DC proper -- not all, but many.

No, OP's unbelievably limited view has DC as the center of his or her universe and can't fathom that other cities are so much better.
That's what happens when you don't travel.
