That was me last year---now it's 5-6 weeks. I don't have much--it is at the back crown mostly (not at front or sides so can't see in a ponytail). I have dark hair though and those minor greys start bugging me.

I should do it every 3-6 weeks, but I end up doing it every 8-12 weeks. I use semi-permanent natural instincts and I love how soft my hair is after. Also, when I do wait to long my hair gets so icky, that after the rinse I feel like a whole new lady. I tried a salon rinse once and to be honest my hair was softer and prettier from the Natural Instincts than it was from fancy smancy salon stuff.

I do mine at the Hair Cuttery in Penrose with Yen. It's 55 and she's amazing.

I have medium brown hair and do my own coloring every 2 months or so. I've been unsing semi-permanent but recently switched to level 3 permanent color. The one I like best now for me is L'Oreal Sublime Mousse. It is cheap, easy to use and leaves my hair in good shape. I've been thinking about adding salon folil highlights but am afraid to have to pay for that upkeep. I'll probably keep doing what I've been doing for a while. I'm 52.

I have light brown hair and have stopped colorin the grey. I get highlights to blend them in and it looks great. No more double process coloring!

I have been colouring my hair blond since I was 16 with the shop bought stuff. Best to use the same manufacturers product. I did once change and it was awful, I had 2 different shades of blond. Once I tried to leave it and grow it out but it looked a bit naff and so ended up colouring it. It's hard to let it go grey. I saw a lady who lives down the road the other day, she has dark hair but recently let it go grey, I've just seen her today and she has dyed it dark again and it has knocked off 10 years. I have about 30% grey, grey's are difficult to colour, they lose the colourant easily after about 2 weeks. I found reading the comments comforting and made me laugh, because there are other people out there who think like me.

I also get my hair colored every three weeks. I can't go any longer or it becomes quite obvious with my silver roots and the rest dark brown. I know I look much younger with my hair color because my sister a few years older resembles me and does not color her hair. People always think she is in her sixties and I am in my forties (both in early fifties). I don't get any other salon treatments or cosmetic work. My stylist is a very experienced colorist and has adjusted the process according to what works best on my hair. Because I dye as close as possible to my natural hair color and blow dry sparingly, my hair is very healthy and shiny.

I have very dark hair and started getting white streaks at 24. Colored for a while in my early thirties, but I got roots within 2 weeks and that is more money and upkeep than I'll ever give to my hair. So I went gray. First a skunk streak, and now I'm a mix of silver, white, and black. People seem to admire my hair, and even though it ages me some (I'm 40 now) it doesn't bother me too much. So what? You might try going gray, OP. Its kind of freeing!

If she's letting her white roots show beyond 6 weeks, it can look really bad. I get the cost of upkeep, but many brunettes have to get color every 4 weeks.

Used to dye my hard to cover temples every 1-2 weeks. Salons were too expensive and didn't cover my temples any better than my boxed results. Too much hassle for hair color that wasn't anything special.
Two years later, my hair has all these unique silver and white streaks like highlights. First time I've been happy with my hair color! I am 42. I really wanted to stop putting those chemicals on my head so often. It scared me.
I am very fit and healthy. Most of my relatives never lived long enough to have gray hair- so for me, it is a blessing!
No more PPD for me!

if you lighten your hair to a level 5 or 6 you wont have as much noticeable regrowth. I suggest talking to a stylist!

40 with medium brown hair that has "needed" coloring for about 3 years. I go to a salon every 7-8 weeks. I have nothing against the actual gray, but my natural hair color has gotten mousy as I've gotten older and the mouse plus gray just isn't a great look for me.

When I do not dye my hair for a few weeks (too busy, etc.), I notice when I talk to people, they always look up at my roots. Some of my friends even remark how it is time to cover up my grey. One of my neighbors even told me not to leave the house looking that way. Geez....people are so rude.

This has been one of the most suckiest parts of getting old. Ugh!!
I am 44, have black hair which is now 85% grey. My hair grows very fast too. When I was just "salt + pepper," I used to have it highlighted professionally every 3~4 months since I absolutely HATE dying my own hair. (Too messy....leaves dye all over the sink, walls, etc.) Well now after about 10~14 days, my grey roots start to show and it would be so EXPENSIVE if I went to the salon that often. I have no choice but to dye my own hair. I just buy a box at the drugstore and do it myself. To avoid mess, I try to buy the foam dyes. It's such a pain in the ass to do it every 10~14 days..it's like a second job. I miss the good ol' days when I dyed my hair for fun. Not it's a necessity. LOL.

56yo - Don't like roots, so every three weeks for me. I would love to see a thread on how to go grey. Maybe I'll ask over at the 50+ forum.
