College recruiting (D1-3) only takes place at large tournaments such as Bethesda Thanksgiving, Annandale, Jefferson Cup, Dallas Cup, Surf Cup, Disney and a few other major tournaments.

The non Academy Bethesda teams send many kids to mostly D3 programs- see the 2014 list here.

Bottom line, if your kid is super serious about soccer and wants to play in college at any D1-3 level, programs like Bethesda, DC United, Potomac, etc is the way to go. It's training and tournament exposure.

Bethesda's policy on injury is included in the documents under the "Player Form" section in the "Resources" portion of the tab. They will refund 15%-30% of fees depending on the circumstances of injury.

I doubt any club has a written policy concerning refunds in the case you just decide to leave mid-year, but you can always try to negotiate with them about it. I think many clubs are willing to be flexible because they don't want to deal with having unhappy parents around.

It changes depending on age.

I am not sure if this includes all the tournament fees. You would probably call/email the coach and ask.


Didn't realize soccer fees were so close to hockey. I would of thought it be a whole lot less...


My kid plays both Potomac Soccer and MYHA Hockey...he's young, so he's not doing travel yet. The fees are comparable...but, hockey ends mid-march while soccer goes until May and even includes a few summer practices, each week soccer is 3 hours of practice and a game during fall/winter, while hockey is just 2 hours of practice (both are 2 hours during the winter), and soccer has paid coaches while hockey is volunteer parent coaches. So, there's the price difference.
