BUt again, if you're not movie people, or you have no idea what their set up is like, this might seem like a weird invitation. I'd personally invite adults over for drinks and talking. (Pre kids we didn't go to the movies often, but when we did it was nearly always with friends, so watching movies together isn't that weird.)
The next time they ask, I'd shrug and say, that's great for you with Charlie, he is probably asleep by 7:30, but what would we do with our Jack? It's just not really ever going to work for us.
Or, maybe they're swingers. Who knows.
Next time they ask, you can say: hey, would it be OK if we bring a couple of cool friends visiting from Brazil? Based on their reaction, you can judge...

I am amazed by the apparent prevalence of swingers, as reported on DCUM. I have learned many swinger pickup lines and signals on DCUM, to which we may now add, "Would you like to watch a movie in our basement?" Who knew? I clearly need to get out more.

Wow. We have a finished basement with a big flat-screen TV, a bunch of squishy seating and a small refrigerator. We specifically designed it so we could have people over to watch sporting events, movies, etc. We had an Oscar party in the basement. The living room area on the main floor isn't really conducive to hanging out and watching TV.
Now I'm having serious doubts about the idea of inviting anyone outside of our circle of closest friends, lest they think we're weird, geeks, or - gasp! - swingers.

To make a long story short, once the wife had one too many, she came out with the info. We had not socialized with them much at all. In fact, they had invited themselves over to our friends - were their neighbors - when the truth came out. She asked to see a computer to show us some of the swinger websites around - and then asked use to join in on the fun. Apparently, there was one (is one still?) in Annapolis.
Her husband was mortified and barely said two words. But he has a mistress, she claims, who lives in Europe.
It was so weird.
From that night on, we ignored her phone calls, and when we were outside at our friend's on a nice summer evening, as soon as we heard her, we ran in! It was awkward at first, but she finally got the hint.
These swinger sites are impressive! In fact, she listed people in our 'hood who were part of the crew!
