7:29 PP here-I am going to look into good boarding schools near their guardians as a backup. I have two kids close in age, at least they would have each other...

To the PP struggling with the choice of a guardian -- yes, we are struggling with the same issue! Our child is very young. The logical choices, my long time best friend and her husband, are older than us and her kids are high school/college ages. I'd appreciate any insights on this specific issue.

Very happy as an older parent - started at 44 with adopting a 1 year old and added a second child 2 year old at 46 but I wish I had children at 35. I wasn't married then.
I love now as tired as I am; I just can't imagine the teen years though...
We're still struggling with a guardian to choose be ause everyone is older that we know and they would be greatly imposed upon iif something should happen- still no regrets. My kids keep me young,

"Of course money makes things MUCH easier, and no one is discounting that fact, but honestly, older moms are no better/worse than younger mom because of this great maturity that older moms love to crow about. If one ended up having children younger, I'm sure they would have been just fine as well. I just get so sick of these subtle comments that are supposedly innocuous, but really draw lines in the sand about how your choices are better than someone else's. "
I am much happier that I focused on career first and then had kids. Heck, I put off getting married so my job would be #1! It makes a huge difference in my desire to be a parent that I kicked some career butt before I got into having to worry about getting home in time for the nanny to leave. My choice to have children while I was in my mid 30s instead of my mid 20s was a very good decision for me personally and my priorities, but bears no relevance to anyone else's choices.

I had my second at 36, and I have a good friend who had her second at 26! She incorporates her children much more seamlessly into her life than I do. She doesn't find children to be the money sacrifice I did and do, because she's never had any! She does have a bit more energy, but that may be due to the fact that she SAH and I WOH FT.

awww hell---had my one and only at 43 (by adoption) and it's great! DC is probably the BEST area to be an older parent! I think it keeps me young at heart and at 53 with a 9 year old I'm still not the oldest parent at the PTA meetings! Go for it!!!!
