My son is starting this fall. Looking forward to the senior project. I think he needs to do a little investigation each year rather than trying to get all of his stuff together in 12th grade.I know about 5 parents whose sons go to walls and haven;t heard one complaint.
Thanks for the interesting post.

22:45 here. I'm not from DC, so I only know about the Beach Boys playing on the Mall b/c I had occasion to talk with noted lunatic and former sec. of the interior James Watt in '86 about his abrupt departure ( caused by dissing the Beach Boys). But kids going to see them? Can't imagine. In 85-86 I saw Springsteen, REM, and the Ramones. I didn't know anyone who would have seen the Beach Boys.

OP still sounds like a student to me, so for me the whole sock puppet thing make e whole post invalid.

The mall w/ the beach boys was awesome. I went down several times as a freshman/sophomore in college; it was a huge party scene.

My child doesn't attend SWWHS. I speak of fairness from the standpoint of an ex-educator, and someone who's undergone subjective examinations. In order for a grading system to be fair, ideally the grading system and graders should be standardized. One of the best ways to do this is to have a grading template, and the same judges for all students, evaluating projects anonymously, where possible.

I'm also, incidentally, a person who stopped watching competitive gymnastics, ice skating and diving because the scoring seemed very biased.

Seems as if, for fairness, all projects should be evaluated by the same team, perhaps with specialists from each discipline..

If you are an adult, I think you are going to have to prove it with some 80s references as I am not buying your attempts at improved grammar.

Flock of Seagulls, shoulder pads and I saw the Boss at RFK in '86 and the Beach Boys on the Mall TWICE. I am not a sock puppet

Fail. Kids of the eighties did not call Springsteen the Boss. The Beach Boys? Are you trying to pretend to be eighty?

Sounds legit to me. And the Beach Boys were a staple of Mall concerts in the 80s - there was this Californiam guy in the White House for a few years, too.

Seems some parents are predisposed to blow the OP off. Not really a surprise that with so few decent public HS options in DC some will rush to the defense of SWW. The project requirement sounds like a good idea that the school doesn't oversee well. Why not demand better parameters for evaluating the projects?

come on, Sherlock, enough with the investigation, even Dr. Watson is bored now. let's go back to the original post. OP alleged that the senior project is not evaluated fairly, that it may not be a good opportunity for growth and learning (other than life is unfair, maybe) as it could and should be. who cares who OP is. any other parent/student who could give us his/her perspective based on experience? thanks
