Hmm...there was a recent study showing that Democrats are more narrow-minded and judgmental than Republicans. What to confirm the study.

DH started AA and stopped drinking about 3 years ago. It's really sad, but we probably lost about half of our couple friends and now only get a fraction of the invitations we use to. My guess is that the issue makes them uncomfortable (and perhaps hits a little too close to home for a few of them) even though he'd be the last person to judge anybody for drinking. I wouldn't trade his sobriety for anything, but I really do miss our old social life. I get really depressed when I think of how many of our "friends," who were so supportive of DH when he started AA, have disappeared from our lives despite our best efforts to keep these friendships going.

Just to let you know. I wish I could drink.

Not the pp but this bothers me too. My FIL used to brag and then my MIL would correct him and they would just pick at each other in front of us. I hated it. The thing was, my FIL was really annoying and exaggerated a lot and so technically speaking my MIL had reason to correct him but the fact is that her behavior in correcting him made things worse. So I work hard at not correcting something that my husband exaggerates about in front of our friends when it's not really important.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:corrects their spouse in front of me (major pet peeve)
Uh oh I do this a lot. Does it really annoy people? We just have that kind of repertoire in our relationship... We still are very close and love each other.
